Message About the rear main. There is 3 ways a rear main seal can go bad besides age. You probably know this, #1, sloppy install, #2, PCV clogged, #3 worn crankshaft. Now, #3 is VERY rare, and I have personally never heard of the case. I have check have had people check my PCV valves twice, and both are clean. That just leaves #1 as the most obvious choice, as that is probably true. The mechanic I took it to used cheap gaskets for the exhaust, some kind of red sealent, not even Nissan exhaust gaskets, the hoses he used to replace my stuff were generic oem stuff. Getting back to the crankshaft, the only way to tell would be to take out everything, tranny etc and find out, which would probably cost me at least 500 in labor. The other problems, I have spend over $1500 this year into this car, and I if I repaired everything again, I'd have to repeat this amount. Im just sick and tired of dealing with it, and something comes up every other month. Yes, some parts of it were my fault, i should have checked the car out, but I bought it from my next door neighbor who I thought would know what maintence items he has replaced or needs replacing.

Again, I don't see it advantagous to sink $5000+ into a 10 year old car, when that and the trade in on the Z could probably get me half way to a new car.

The other problems, like the left bank, never leaked before I took it into the other shop. I know for a FACT this is true.
